Our Core Values...

We, at Viewfield Baptist Church, try to live our lives - both as a community and individuals - by a set of scriptural based principals called "Our Core Values". These values inform how we struture our Church life and how we understand our calling to be the Body of Christ in Dunfermline. They are based on this confession of faith:

We are called to be a worshipping people
seeking and celebrating the God who journeys with us, and open to the Spirit in the whole of life.

We are called to be an inclusive people
pulling down the walls of prejudice and welcoming the stranger.

We are called to be a sacrificial people
risking uncertainty, becoming vulnerable, and reflecting the generosity of God.

We are called to be a prophetic people
working for justice, resisting violence and challenging the abuse of power.

We are called to be a missionary people
demonstrating in word and action the redeeming love of God in the world.

Church Development

As of May 2010, Viewfield Baptist Church embarked upon the challenging and visionary task of renovating, extending and modernising the Church building. Although no new bricks have yet been laid, the foundations for this task were set in place with the calling of the new Building Development Team comprising:

Ian Drysdale - Deacon, Team Co-Ordinator and Property Specialist
Finlay Robertson - Deacon and Works Team Co-Ordinator
David Duncan - Deacon and Works Team Member
Michael Bonser - Pastor

The team met and quickly formed a working understanding of what would be required in order to see this project reach its fullest potential. With the approval of the Church membership the Building Development Team (BDT) set about working towards the following remit:

'Following the church survey back in 2008/9, feedback suggested there was a desire to look again at development of the church buildings. The Building Development Team was formed this year (2010) and has met on a number of occasions since May this year to look at options the church may want to consider in developing the church buildings and land. A draft brief has been pulled together and this is submitted for information, consideration and approval by the church. The Building Development Team aims are, to provide a modern church facility by maximising the use of the space to increase and enhance our accommodation and provide increased capacity and additional multi purpose space. The church requires a facility fit for purpose, one that meets our current and future demands, and one that addresses our access problems and reduces our energy usage and maintenance costs.'

The BDT have subsequently met on several occasions and one of the main markers of progress came when the Church decided that it was ready to tender for a Feasibility Study and the process of sending this proposal out to tender began in October 2010. The successful applicant, out of five very strong proposals, was Lee Boyd an Edinburgh based architect whose work has included the design of the stunning interior now present in St Paul's and St George's Church, Edinburgh.

So far we have begun discussions with Lee Boyd and the Core Teams of the Church as well as the major users of the building in order to ascertain what our aspirations for a building may be and what facilities will be needed in order for us to maintain and develop our Ministry through Christ, to the town.
